Prehistoric Ireland (1) - Newgrange: parched turf and stone

This is the first of a series of posts from a recent trip to Ireland looking at prehistoric sites. Newgrange was the initial draw for me to go on this trip, so I am posting these images first.

Newgrange is an ancient passage tomb, approximately 5200 years old, situated in the Boyne Valley in Ireland. Images you find online online show the turf roof green - I went during a long period of drought and hot sun, and the turf roof was parched, although the grass on the ground was still green.

The images are all of the exterior mound of the tomb, the entrance stone and lintel, and the surrounding kerb stones. Photography is not permitted inside the tomb.
