Voyage North - photo essay (24) A tale of two gulls

We approached the dock in Bergen at around 9am. It was a fine morning so a number of passengers had been eating breakfast out on the deck, and the remnants had not been cleared away, as people were still eating.

The local gulls have obviously learned that cruise ships mean food, and while we were still manoeuvering, and not yet docked, one bold individual arrived to scope out the prospects:



A second gull also approached the ship:



But the first gull claimed territorial rights and shouted at the newcomer:


And then gave chase:



Leaving no ambiguity:


And then returned to the ship:



And tried to steal some breakfast:


But the second gull had not given up:



And was shouted at again:



This time the second gull was more assertive and stayed:



So separate perches were found:
