Voyage North - photo essay (8) Skarsvåg and Kamøyvær

These two villages - Skarsvåg and Kamøyvær - were points on the evening journey around Magerøya. Both are on the coast, both have fishing boats, each has a tourist attraction - open and staffed at this late evening hour, because a ship was in at Honningsvåg.

In Skarsvåg there is a year-round Christmas and winter shop (julehuset), selling typical Norwegian Christmas items, food and decorations (the Scandinavians all really like Christmas), as well as local knitwear etc. In Kamøyvær there is an art gallery/studio/shop run by a German artist who has made her home in this remote part of Norway. She makes highly original and attractive collages (by a technique that she devised) that draw their inspiration from the local surroundings - landscape, history, legends, flora and fauna.
