Headstones

This is the second post of images arising from my day in Newark with Gilly Walker (see here for explanation).

In the afternoon we spent time in a park/cemetery where there is a small area that is a military cemetery, with the familiar rows of uniform headstones. It seems as if these 'ought' to make a strong photographic subject (think of all the panoramic shots of the war graves in France and Belgium). However, they turned out to be surprisingly difficult to photograph. We didn't have access to an elevated viewpoint, which is what makes the European photos of large war cemeteries so striking; there weren't vast numbers of stones; and the serried ranks were considerably softened by substantial planting.

So here are three attempts to create images from what was possible, plus two individual headstones.
