Wicken Fen (4) - Konik ponies: friendships and herd behaviour

As with the previous photos of the ponies, there was bright, glaring, unrelenting sunshine, and a harsh, flat open environment; not the best choice for taking photographs, but that's where the ponies were and that's how the weather was.

 

Wicken Fen (3) - Konik ponies: aggressive males

This posture, head down and forward, is saying I'm the boss, you go where I tell you. Strangely, it treminds me of a farmyard goose being aggressive, a similar neck and head alignment.

I hesitated about including this last one. Technically, it's a terrible photo: I was still turning to catch the action that had just started, the horses were moving, there wasn't time to focus the camera . . . but the postures are so expressive that I didn't want to discard it.
