A September week in a year of a hot and very dry summer. Nagshead is an RSPB nature reserve.
The plants and trees were all stressed, many turning their colour, shedding leaves and fruit early to try to conserve scarce moisture - known as a 'false autumn' - as can be seen here on the forest floor:
Also on or near the forest floor, stag beetles scurrying and dragonflies darting around:
But still plenty of green to be found:
