Orkney & Shetland 5: Stromness
Stromness, unlike many seaside towns, does not have a promenade or a 'front'. The houses adjacent to the shore present their backs to the sea, each with a tiny private jetty, harking back to a time when every household gained its livelihood from the sea. So, from the main street, glimpses of the sea come only between the houses. On rainy day, the choice of photographic subjects had to take this into account!
